Web Hosting Provider XMission Transitions to Total Renewable Energy
November 19, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – In a bid to do its part to help the environment, web hosting provider XMission (http://www.xmission.com/) has transitioned to Total Renewable Energy, it was reported today. The company, also a broadband provider, has made the upgrade to “100% renewable energy” through Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program, which the company has been involved in since 2006. According to the company, it is the first Internet service provider in the US state of Utah to “purchase green power equal to its entire electricity use”. The company has also “implemented green standards” at its own data center by upgrading equipment and increasing efficiency of power and cooling systems.
“Working with Rocky Mountain Power on their Blue Sky program has generated tremendous positive feedback from our customers,” explained the President and founder of XMission,
Pete Ashdown. “Doing this makes business sense and I am proud to fuel the demand for clean, renewable, and safe power generation. As one of Utah's top consumers of electricity, I am proud that XMission is setting the example for other businesses. You can eliminate pollution from your business and be economically viable.”
XMission has increased renewable energy purchases by 412% to include 2,826 blocks of renewable energy on a monthly basis. The energy comes from sources such as wind, solar, and geothermal options and completely offsets the company’s carbon footprint – a total of 3,391 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The company’s customers will maintain their usual service and will not see any increases in their bills due to the upgrade.
XMission is based Salt Lake City, Utah and provides “connectivity, web hosting, and colocation services to Utah residents and businesses”. The company supports hundreds of Utah’s nonprofit organizations by providing free web hosting services, and through sponsorship of community-based events and facilities, including the Living Planet Aquarium, the Utah Arts Festival, Living Traditions Festival, and Twilight Concert Series.
