Web Host and Domain Name Provider GoDaddy Not to Advertise During February’s Super Bowl
Web host and domain name provider GoDaddy has decided not to advertise on television during February’s Super Bowl. GoDaddy, whose headquarters are in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Arizona, United States, offers a range of services to business customers who are trying to establish a viable presence on the internet. The company offers a wide range of hosting options alongside website building solutions, email solutions, and web security and online marketing options. The company has advertised during the Super Bowl for 11 years running.

GoDaddy’s Super Bowl commercials have been steeped in controversy. Some of its commercials have been extremely risqué with some blasting them for being downright sexist. The commercials made a star of Danica Patrick, who the company sponsored as its ‘Go Daddy girl’. Ms. Patrick is famed for being the first female winner of an IndyCar race and GoDaddy’s commercials have featured her in various stages of undress. The commercials spurred the phrase “GoDaddy-esque” – meaning content that is edgy and pushes the envelope.

GoDaddy’s move appears to be a cost-saving measure on behalf of the company, who despite an IPO in April of this year is losing money – a loss of $71.3 million was reported in August (although its shares have increased 70%). The company reduced its last Super Bowl spending (the event featured 30-second TV slots costing $4.5 million) and is now changing advertising policy to data-driven marketing.
