SoftScan and ScanSafe Partner on Web Security-as-a-Service

February 27, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – SoftScan and ScanSafe have partnered to provide Web Security-as-a-Service. The agreement sees ScanSafe’s services re-branded as SoftScan Web Security and made available to the company’s 7,000 corporate customers. ScanSafe’s web security services will also be available for SoftScan’s European customers.

"SoftScan has long been the leading provider of managed email security in Northern Europe," explained ScanSafe’s CEO, Eldar Tuvey. "The addition of Web Security to SoftScan's portfolio of managed email security is a natural fit, enabling SoftScan customers to enjoy effortless protection from zero-hour Web-based threats."

The company cites instances of sites such as MySpace and Facebook as an indication of the Web threats being found on “legitimate, trusted brand name sites”. "The dynamic and open nature of the Internet makes it easy for IT-criminals to exploit and they often hit where it is least expected," explained SoftScan’s CTO, Diego d'Ambra. "With users frequently being led to infected websites through links in their email or instant messaging service, securing Web traffic is a priority. Particularly when you consider that even websites you trust can be carriers of malware - often through third party content."

According to the company, the SoftScan Web Security service “requires no hardware, maintenance or upfront capital costs and delivers real-time scanning of Web and IM (instant messaging) traffic”. As a result, the service “increases productivity, reduces bandwidth consumption and offers a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) than hardware or software solutions”.

SoftScan provides managed security services for mail, web and instant messaging. The company’s services protect “7,000 private and public companies on a daily basis”. Established in 2003, it employs more than 150 people and its services are used in more than 100 countries.
