Internet and Technology Services Provider Zen Internet Making £3.5 Million Investment in Local Exchange Points of Presence
Internet and technology services provider Zen Internet is making a £3.5 million ($5.2 million) investment in local exchange Points of Presence (PoPs). The move will provide the UK-based company with 200 Ethernet nodes at local exchanges across the United Kingdom and enable it to offer customers competitive Ethernet services. The nodes will be connected to Zen's existing MPLS core network via a new Cable & Wireless backhaul network.

Established in 1995, Zen Internet was one of the United Kingdom's first Internet Services Providers and is independently owned. The company's investment in PoPs allows it to provide cost effective services in a highly competitive market, and underscores a long-term corporate policy designed to enable the company to deliver services directly to customers. In 2012 the company increased its LLU presence at four North-Western exchanges, conducting pilot projects to deploy four Zen Ethernet PoPs. The company has now completed 200 PoPs, 70 which are live, with the remaining going live over the next month.

“The new Ethernet services will be particularly appropriate and cost-effective for organizations that have several offices or buildings spread across a local area, such as local authorities," explained Head of Product Management and Marketing at Zen, Mr. Andrew Saunders. "By using a range of access technologies we can offer 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gbps services and we anticipate that customers looking to move away from older leased line technology or Broadband services will be surprised at how affordable it is to upgrade to our new Ethernet services.”
