Survey: What drives consumers away from your E-business? |
 |
September 4, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - Web Hosting provider Hostway Corporations recently conducted survey has produced a set of results that will be of particular interest to commercial Web sites. Designed to establish pet peeves as far as Web sites are concerned, the survey was conducted across the United States in a bid to highlight the issues that were most likely to stop someone from visiting a site. Pop-up ads, registration log-on pages and Flash pages were found to be amongst the leading offenders. The survey also revealed exactly how seriously most Internet users took these issues. A staggering 70% of respondents suggested they were unlikely to even return to a Web site where they might encounter such annoyances, let alone purchase something. With the survey revealing only 25% of commercial Web site users would actually complain to a Web site about issues they found annoying, the implications are that many Web sites may be unknowingly driving potential customers away.
The results of this survey are a clear warning to e-businesses, suggested John Lee, vice president of marketing at Hostway. The Internet has matured to the point where consumers demand an easy online experience. Quite simply, consumers are warning companies, youre going to lose my business if your Web site experience is annoying.
By far the chief annoyance for survey respondents were pop-up ads, with a huge 93 percent saying they are annoying or extremely annoying, and 89 percent annoyed that they must install additional software to block pop-ups.
