FamilyWeb Launches Services for Genealogists

FamilyWeb (Amherst, NY) announced the launch of their full line of internet services for genealogists. Originally founded in 1995, FamilyWeb recognized the lack of internet services which were specifically tailored to the needs of the growing genealogy market. "There are thousands of genealogy hobbyists with no simple method of sharing their family research on the internet," said founder Mark Yetto. FamilyWeb plans on changing that.
Utilizing the popular WinFamily Software (Webhuset - Oslo, Norway), FamilyWeb converts a family's research files into a hyperlinked and user-friendly graphical family tree which is ready for internet publishing. Hosting packages - which include design of the family's home page, a guestbook, photo page and their family tree - are less than $10/month, and FamilyWeb recently began offering discount domain registrations. "In developing the concept of FamilyWeb, we really had to look for ways to make it affordable. The people we typically work with are not commercial companies. They are usually young couples or retirees" said Yetto, who used the internet to find over 1000 of his own relatives worldwide.
"Being able to meet so many of my relatives and accomplish so much in my own personal genealogy research using nothing more than the internet was eye-opening." And having had the renewing experience of traveling to his ancestral home land - a rural village in the remote mountains of southern Italy - he was encouraged to help others in their quest. "Finding a link with your past is important to balancing priorities, and this is something I can share with others."
FamilyWeb also offers a way to share family traditions on the internet through their community area, the FamilyWeb Cafe. From its beginnings as a simple method of sharing the recipes of Yetto's grandparents among his cousins, the FamilyWeb Cafe now features traditional family recipes from a multitude of ethnicities, as well as loads of links geared towards family life.
