Cloud-based email and data protection services provider
Mimecast is to open two data centers in Australia. The company, which was established in 2003, offers email and data protection services to a global 13,000-strong customer base. Its security, archiving and continuity services are cloud-based and offer comprehensive email and data risk management. The company's new Australian data centers are a response to interest in the company's services. With its additional centers in Australia Mimecast will have 12 data centers in five countries.
The Mimecast Email Security solution protects against a range of email threats such as phishing, malware, and spam, as well as the new threats that appear on a regular basis. Its Mailbox Continuity solution allows a company's staff to keep working and using email during outages (planned or otherwise).
Mimecast's investment will allow Australian companies to deal with a range of email threats. The company's new data centers will begin operations "within the next few months" and allow Mimecast to provide services in "two identical data centers in separate locations in New South Wales". With two centers in different areas Mimecast can switch operations between centers should issues occur at either one.
“This investment will allow Australian companies to archive their growing volumes of email while maintaining local data residency and provide powerful search tools that allow users to easily access this information,” suggested Mimecast Australia's Country Manager, Nicholas Lennon. “We believe a very high concentration of Australian businesses most valuable corporate data is held within email. Data loss, leakage or security breaches from email have been shown to have devastating effects.”
