Wi-Fi Guy Ends West-Coast Half of National Tour Concludes Unique Public Awareness Campaign
FORT WORTH (June 3, 2004) - C I Host, a global leader in Web hosting and Internet infrastructure, announces the arrival of the Wi-Fi Guy back to where it all originated from - Dallas, TX. The national tour sponsored by C I Host was a one-man journey to scope out the world of wireless Internet, unlike ever before.
"For us, this was a combination of guerilla marketing, grassroots research and a journalism first," said Chris Faulkner, CEO of Bedford-based C I Host. "The Wi-Fi Guy spread the word about this hot technology for consumers and reported from all over the country."
Speaking with locals, attending street festivals and conventions, checking out hotels and working from coffee shops, The Wi-Fi Guy tested Wi-Fi hotspots, experimented with new gadgets, and blogged an "everyman's" opinion of the technology on his Web site, www.wifi-guy.com. His stops included big cities such as Los Angeles, Calif. and Las Vegas, Nev., to small towns such as Bliss, Idaho - with each being graded by the Wi-Fi Guy's unique rating system.
"Wi-Fi is the most liberating, productive business tool since the laptop," Faulkner said. "We helped The Wi-Fi Guy blaze a trail to the hot beds of wireless activity, while spreading the word and recruiting more disciples."
Analysts report that one in every six Americans who use the Internet now go on-line using a wireless connect. Wi-Fi, or wireless fidelity, is an innovative tool that allows users to connect without the use of modems, cables or wires.
"There were some surprises on the road," said the Wi-Fi Guy. "There was one communications professional totally unaware of the technology, yet a clerk and waitress seriously in tune with it."
C I Host, who powers the Wi-Fi Guy Web site, provided the promotional vehicle for the trip - a new, bright orange Ford Expedition wrapped in C I Host logos. C I Host is also giving away a trip to Mexico for those who spotted the Wi-Fi Guy and left contact information.
The Wi-Fi Guy will be re-entering the Dallas area Friday, June 4, and is planning an east coast leg of the tour within the coming month.
