Burlington, VT - Burlee.com, one of the world's largest Web hosts and data center providers, is pleased to announce the opening of its new headquarters and Internet data center. Now fully operational, Burlee's state-of-the art data center is centrally housed within a 275,000 sq. foot building - the largest building in the state.
One of the largest facilities of its kind in the nation, Burlee's Internet Data Center provides 24-hour monitoring of the Internet, Burlee's internal data network, physical facilities, and telecommunications services. The SONET-protected facility, housing a private OC-3 fiber optic ring, provides one of the highest bandwidth and most secure paths to the Internet available. This node features redundant connectivity to multiple carriers through geographically diverse building penetrations carrying optical fiber to numerous, independent building access points to widely diverse and redundant exterior under-ground runs.
Multiple utilities provide electrical power from diverse locations to a private substation on site, which is backed up and conditioned by UPS systems with auto-start Caterpillar diesel generators to provide truly uninterrupted service.
The data center is a controlled environment with multiple Liebert air systems with N+1 temperature, humidity, and air- quality regulation, including HEPA particle filtration. It is a virtually dust and particle-free computing environment.
Security measures include: water detection and intrusion loops, infrared and biometric security devices, pre-action sprinkler systems, sealing of all building and room penetrations, and a fire-rated computer room. The facility's physical security is augmented by its internal location, with no walls bordering a building exterior. Excellent physical security is enforced with 24-hour on-site personnel and advanced locking, motion detection, and qualified engineer supervision.
The design of the sales and support workspace takes its architectural clues from the landscape of Vermont, creating one of the most spectacular work spaces in the industry. The space contains a large indoor Koi fishpond and waterfall lined with Lake Champlain shale, and a number of boulders (more than 15 tons) from local quarries are placed throughout the space. The interior reflects Burlee's corporate culture, eschewing large conference tables in favor of couches, conference rooms in favor of lounges, and cubicles in favor of open, team work environments. Twenty-four foot ceilings allow room for large trees within the space itself.
