Employees Register for March of Dimes Walk America |
 |
Pittsburgh - March 25, 2003 -- AvidNewMedia employees register for March of Dimes Walk America to help save, and find a cure for babies born prematurely, and other health threats.
This year's Walk America has a special meaning for AvidNewMedia Co-President, Mark Klink. On January 1st 2003, Klink's wife gave birth to two premature twins, Austin and Ashton.
"My twins were very small, and spent the better part of a month in Western Pennsylvania Hospital's NeoNatal unit, after Ashton stopped breathing." said Klink. "There wasn't much my wife and I could do, other than rely on the hospital's staff to take good care of our babies."
Although Austin and Ashton are doing fine, they give this year's Walk America event a new meaning for Klink.
According to the March of Dimes, "460,000 babies are born prematurely in the United States, every year. Some of these babies are so small, doctors can't save them. Others may suffer lifelong consequences, like mental retardation, and blindness, and no one knows what causes half of these early births."
All walks are 6.2 Miles (10K), and the money raised, supports March of Dimes research and programs to find answers.
