"Up to 40Mbps" Fibre Optic Broadband Services Now Available From Internet Service Providers Zen Internet

September 29, 2010
September 29, 2010 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Zen Internet, one of the UK’s leading Internet Service Providers (ISP) has announced today the availability of its new fibre optic broadband packages. These superfast broadband services will offer download speeds of "Up to 40Mbps" and upload speeds of “up to 10Mbps”.

‘We believe the impact of the introduction of the new fibre optic broadband service will be revolutionary for both business and residential users. Small and medium businesses stand to benefit most with fibre optic broadband providing high speed bandwidth that was previously only available through expensive lease line solutions, that were the preserve of larger organisations,” said Andrew Saunders, Head of Product Management and Marketing.

‘The world wide web as we know it has been around since 1989, which means that for the past 20 years the internet has been brought into our workplaces and homes using twisted copper cable that has changed little since the invention of the telephone in 1876. Fibre is the future, so gone is the previous cynicism of the “world wide wait” fibre optic broadband gives us ‘The Internet Accelerated’! added Saunders.

Established in 1995, Zen is celebrating its 15 year anniversary this October. The company which is still independently owned by its founder and Managing Director Richard Tang, started its business with dial-up internet access, was one of the first ISPs in the UK to provide ADSL broadband services.

Since then it has invested heavily in its network, services and its people to ensure that it leads from the front. Going from strength to strength Zen now includes fibre optic broadband in its range of high quality Internet services to the business and home user. All of these services are supported by a highly robust and resilient network and excellent technical support and customer service.

Fibre optic broadband services bring with it many benefits for both residential and business customers including file faster download and upload (quicker back-up, etc). Additional bandwidth will improve the performance of Virtual Private Networks making uploading and downloading of files more efficient, meaning working from home becomes a more viable option.

The use of multi-media and conferencing facilities will improve with higher download and upload speeds as will the use of live streaming services. Connectivity will be better equipped to cope with the forecasted exponential growth in high definition streaming and lower call costs by taking advantage of VoIP delivered over fibre.

Zen’s products are tailored for both residential and business customers with options for 2Mbps or 10Mbps upload speeds and minimum downstream targets. All its Fibre Broadband services offer Up to 40Mbps downstream speeds and are available from £30+VAT per month.

“‘We have developed these new services which use fibre optic cabling for part of the network to deliver faster broadband to homes and businesses. It is important to us that we develop these new services in line with our mission to provide the best ISP service in the UK.”

“The introduction of fibre based broadband is more significant than the change from dial-up to broadband and we are working hard to ensure we provide all our customers with the same level of service and support that they expect from us for these new services,’’ said Saunders.

The 'Check Your Speed' field on the all of Zen’s Broadband pages of www.zen.co.uk will now check for availability of FTTC Fibre Optic Broadband services and return an estimated speed. The results provided are estimates of what speed the line is capable of supporting and are based on line length and quality. The actual speeds experienced can vary significantly depending on the time of day, contention and the use of wireless networking.

By the end of this summer BT are forecasting that around 1.5 million premises will have access to fibre, growing to 4 million by the end of the year, including 30% of existing Zen customers. The roll-out is subject to change and availability is dependent on the enablement of the actual roadside cabinet customers use to connect to their local exchange. Zen will be contacting existing customers when fibre becomes available in their area and offering the opportunity to upgrade to the new services.

This summer Zen also announced its new telephone line services, Home Talk and Business Talk. Its telephone line services are available from £10.99 inc VAT per month, offering a one-stop-shop solution of broadband, telephone line and calls - all on a monthly contract and perfect partner to our fibre optic broadband. Transferring your existing telephone line to Business Talk or Home Talk is the ideal way to avoid recently announced BT price increases, up-front payments and long term contracts.

Continuing with the fibre theme, Zen will shortly begin its first phase of its Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) trials in Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes and Higham Park, North London. Plans have recently been announced for Leytonstone and York.
